9 Times Table
Two tricks make the 9 times table easy: 9 × 6 is 10 × 6 minus 6, which is 54, and the digits of every answer add up to 9 (5 + 4). The tens digit is always one less than the number you multiply by.
All facts of the 9 times table
Read the table aloud once, then cover the answers and say them from memory.
- 9 × 1 = 9
- 9 × 2 = 18
- 9 × 3 = 27
- 9 × 4 = 36
- 9 × 5 = 45
- 9 × 6 = 54
- 9 × 7 = 63
- 9 × 8 = 72
- 9 × 9 = 81
- 9 × 10 = 90
How to remember it
Times 9 is times 10 minus one group: 9 × 7 = 70 − 7 = 63. The digits of the answer add up to 9.
How to solve this
- The ×9 table has a neat pattern: the digit sum of every result is 9 (e.g. 63: 6+3=9).
- Quick method: 9 × n = (10 × n) − n — multiply by 10 and subtract the number once.
- Also notice the tens and ones digits: as tens go 0→9, ones go 9→0.
