1 Times Table
The 1 times table has one simple rule: multiplying by 1 never changes a number, so 1 × 8 = 8 and 5 × 1 = 5. It is an easy start that shows children what multiplication means before the harder tables.
All facts of the 1 times table
Read the table aloud once, then cover the answers and say them from memory.
- 1 × 1 = 1
- 1 × 2 = 2
- 1 × 3 = 3
- 1 × 4 = 4
- 1 × 5 = 5
- 1 × 6 = 6
- 1 × 7 = 7
- 1 × 8 = 8
- 1 × 9 = 9
- 1 × 10 = 10
How to remember it
Multiplying by 1 leaves the number unchanged: 7 × 1 = 7.
How to solve this
- The ×1 table is the easiest: any number multiplied by 1 equals itself.
- Think of 1 group of n objects — there are still n objects total.
- Check: if the answer doesn't equal the number you multiplied by 1, something went wrong.
Examples
