Times tables 11–20

11 Times Table

The 11 times table starts with the easiest pattern of all: 11 × 1 to 11 × 9 just repeat the digit, so 11 × 7 = 77. The last three facts, 110, 121 and 132, follow from 11 × 10 plus one or two more elevens.

All facts of the 11 times table

Read the table aloud once, then cover the answers and say them from memory.

  • 11 × 1 = 11
  • 11 × 2 = 22
  • 11 × 3 = 33
  • 11 × 4 = 44
  • 11 × 5 = 55
  • 11 × 6 = 66
  • 11 × 7 = 77
  • 11 × 8 = 88
  • 11 × 9 = 99
  • 11 × 10 = 110
  • 11 × 11 = 121
  • 11 × 12 = 132

How to remember it

Up to 11 × 9 the digit just repeats: 11 × 7 = 77. Then 11 × 10 = 110, 11 × 11 = 121, 11 × 12 = 132.

How to multiply by 11

  • From 11 × 1 to 11 × 9, write the number twice: 11 × 4 = 44, 11 × 8 = 88.
  • 11 × 10 = 110: put a zero after 11.
  • 11 × 11 and 11 × 12: start at 110 and add one or two more elevens: 110 + 11 = 121, 110 + 22 = 132.
  • Any two-digit number times 11: pull the digits apart and write their sum in the middle. 11 × 23 → 2 _ 3, 2 + 3 = 5 → 253. If the sum is 10 or more, carry the 1 to the left digit: 11 × 48 → 528.

Worked examples

11 × 12

  1. Split 12 into 10 + 2.
  2. 11 × 10 = 110 and 11 × 2 = 22.
  3. 110 + 22 = 132.

Answer: 11 × 12 = 132

11 × 34 (two-digit trick)

  1. Pull the digits apart: 3 _ 4.
  2. Add them: 3 + 4 = 7.
  3. Write the 7 in the middle: 374.

Answer: 11 × 34 = 374

11 × 57 (with a carry)

  1. Pull the digits apart: 5 _ 7.
  2. Add them: 5 + 7 = 12.
  3. Write the 2 in the middle and add the 1 to the 5: 627.

Answer: 11 × 57 = 627

Patterns that help you check

Up to 11 × 9 every answer has two equal digits: 11, 22, 33 … 99. After that the pattern changes to 110, 121, 132.

The two-digit trick explains 11 × 12 as well: 1 _ 2, 1 + 2 = 3 → 132.
