3 Times Table
For the 3 times table, children skip count by threes: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 … 30. Groups of three objects make each fact visible: 4 groups of 3 are 12.
All facts of the 3 times table
Read the table aloud once, then cover the answers and say them from memory.
- 3 × 1 = 3
- 3 × 2 = 6
- 3 × 3 = 9
- 3 × 4 = 12
- 3 × 5 = 15
- 3 × 6 = 18
- 3 × 7 = 21
- 3 × 8 = 24
- 3 × 9 = 27
- 3 × 10 = 30
How to remember it
Count in threes: 3, 6, 9, 12 … each answer is 3 more than the one before.
How to solve this
- The ×3 table builds by adding 3 each time: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30.
- A useful check: the digit sum of any multiple of 3 is also divisible by 3 (e.g. 27: 2+7=9).
- Check with the ×2 helper: 3 × n = (2 × n) + n, so add the number to its double.
