Times tables 11–20

16 Times Table

The 16 times table is the 8 times table doubled: 8 × 7 = 56, so 16 × 7 = 112. Children who are still unsure of their 8s can double four times instead: 7 → 14 → 28 → 56 → 112.

All facts of the 16 times table

Read the table aloud once, then cover the answers and say them from memory.

  • 16 × 1 = 16
  • 16 × 2 = 32
  • 16 × 3 = 48
  • 16 × 4 = 64
  • 16 × 5 = 80
  • 16 × 6 = 96
  • 16 × 7 = 112
  • 16 × 8 = 128
  • 16 × 9 = 144
  • 16 × 10 = 160
  • 16 × 11 = 176
  • 16 × 12 = 192

How to remember it

Times 16 is double the 8s: 16 × 7 = 2 × 56 = 112.

How to multiply by 16

  • 16 = 2 × 8: take the 8s fact and double it. 8 × 6 = 48, so 16 × 6 = 96.
  • If the 8s are shaky, double four times: 16 × 3 → 6 → 12 → 24 → 48.
  • Or split 16 into 10 + 6: 16 × 7 = 70 + 42 = 112.
  • Every answer is even, and the ones digits repeat 6, 2, 8, 4, 0.

Worked examples

16 × 7

  1. 8 × 7 = 56.
