Grade 2 Math

Length: meters and centimeters

One meter is 100 centimeters, so 4 m = 400 cm, and 72 cm needs 28 cm more to make 1 m. Children add and compare lengths and practice converting between the two units.

How to solve this

  • Length is measured with a ruler; the main units are centimetres (cm) and metres (m), with 100 cm in 1 m.
  • Always align the zero mark of the ruler with the start of the object before reading the length.
  • Check by estimating first: a fingernail is about 1 cm, a door is about 2 m — does your answer fit?

Examples

35 cm + 20 cm = ?

55 cm

1 m = ?

100 cm
