Money: adding prices and making change
These money problems use euros and cents. Children add up prices and find the change by subtracting the price from the amount paid: 10 € − 7 € = 3 €. It is addition and subtraction to 100 in a real-life setting.
How to solve this
- Count money by sorting coins and notes by value, then add from the largest denomination down.
- Convert everything to the same unit (cents or euros) before adding or comparing amounts.
- Check by counting back the change: price + change must equal the amount paid.
Examples
3 € + 2 € = ?
5 €
Pay 10 €, price 7 €
3 € change
