Operation recognition helps children practise deciding which operation (+, −, ×, ÷) a word problem needs, without being told in advance. Read the short guide and look through the examples before choosing online practice or a printable worksheet.
How to solve this
- Operation recognition means choosing the correct symbol (+, −, ×, ÷) to make an equation true.
- Try each operation mentally: if only one makes both sides equal, that is the answer.
- Check by substituting your chosen operation and confirming left side = right side.
