Grade 2 Math

Turnaround facts (commutative property)

The order of the factors does not change the product: 3 × 8 and 8 × 3 are both 24. Once children know this commutative property, a fact they find hard (8 × 3) can be solved with one they know (3 × 8).

How to solve this

  • Multiplication is commutative: changing the order of the factors does not change the product.
  • For every fact such as 3 × 7 = 21, there is a partner: 7 × 3 = 21 — write them both.
  • Check by verifying that both equations give the same product and together form a commutative pair.

Examples

3 × 8 = 24

8 × 3 = 24

7 × 4 = ?

4 × 7 = 28

Practice problems with answers

Solve these problems on paper or out loud, then check the answer key. The online practice and the printable worksheet give a new set every time.

  1. 1 × 8 = 8 → 8 × ___ = 8
  2. 3 × 1 = 1 × 3 = ___
  3. 4 × 8 = 32 → 8 × ___ = 32
  4. 2 × 8 = 8 × 2 = ___
  5. 9 × 7 = ___ × 9
  6. 4 × 5 = 5 × 4 = ___
  7. 5 × 8 = 40 → 8 × ___ = 40
  8. 2 × 5 = ___ × 2

Android app

Times Divide

Multiplication and division worksheets that follow what the child has already solved.

The app does not generate PDF sheets at random. It uses the child’s previous results, including offline sheets, so the next practice can focus on what still needs work.

  • Generate printable PDFs from the child’s history.
  • Enter solved offline sheets quickly after practice.
  • The app shows each answer; you mark it correct or not.
