Grade 2 Math

Order numbers

Ordering means comparing several numbers at once: find the smallest tens digit first, then let the ones break any tie. Children sort sets like 42, 24, 48, 18 into 18, 24, 42, 48 and back again.

How to solve this

  • To order numbers, compare them in pairs and arrange them from smallest to largest (or largest to smallest).
  • Look at the tens digit first; only compare ones if two numbers share the same tens digit.
  • Check by reading your sequence aloud: each step should go up (or down) by the right amount.

Examples

18, 24, 42, 48

91, 19, 59, 95

19, 59, 91, 95

Practice problems with answers

Solve these problems on paper or out loud, then check the answer key. The online practice and the printable worksheet give a new set every time.
