Greater than, less than, equal to
To compare two-digit numbers, look at the tens first and check the ones only when the tens are equal: 45 < 54 because 4 tens are less than 5 tens. Kids choose <, > or = for numbers up to 100.
How to solve this
- To compare two numbers, first look at the number of digits; more digits means a larger number.
- If both numbers have the same number of digits, compare the tens digit first, then the ones digit.
- Check that the symbol "points" at the smaller number: 34 < 52 means 34 is smaller.
