Grade 3 Math

Subtract 3-digit numbers

Subtract 3-digit numbers helps children practise subtracting three-digit numbers including ones, without the formal written column method. Read the short guide and look through the examples before choosing online practice or a printable worksheet.

How to solve this

  • Subtract three-digit numbers column by column from right to left; borrow from the next column when needed.
  • Each borrow reduces the lending column by 1 and adds 10 to the borrowing column.
  • Check by adding: answer + subtracted number must equal the starting number.
