Grade 2 Math

Number houses (mixed)

A number house shows the ways to split one number into two parts: 56 is 20 + 36, 30 + 26 or 18 + 38. Finding the missing part is subtraction in disguise and builds number bonds for any number up to 100.

How to solve this

  • A mixed number house uses both addition and subtraction to link the roof with each pair of floors.
  • Read the operation sign above or beside each floor to know whether to add or subtract.
  • Check that every floor satisfies the equation with the roof using the operation shown.

Examples

Number house 70: 30 + __

40

Number house 56: 20 + __

36
