Subtracting full tens
When you subtract full tens, only the tens change: 80 − 30 is 8 tens take away 3 tens, which leaves 5 tens, or 50. Kids practice subtraction and missing-number problems with multiples of 10 up to 100.
How to solve this
- When subtracting a full ten, only the tens digit decreases — the ones digit stays the same.
- Split the subtraction: reduce the tens digit by the number of tens you are taking away, keep ones unchanged.
- Check by adding the ten back: you should land on the number you started with.
