Two-digit ± two-digit, no regrouping
Without regrouping, two-digit numbers are added or subtracted place by place: 34 + 21 = 55 because 3 + 2 tens make 5 tens and 4 + 1 ones make 5 ones. Missing-number problems are included too.
How to solve this
- When adding or subtracting two-digit numbers without regrouping, work on tens and ones separately.
- Add (or subtract) the tens digits together, then the ones digits together — no carrying needed.
- Check by estimating with rounded numbers first, then confirming the exact calculation matches.
