Subtracting full tens
Subtracting full tens helps children practise subtracting full tens by working with the tens digit only: 80 − 30 = 5 tens = 50. Read the short guide and look through the examples before choosing online practice or a printable worksheet.
How to solve this
- When subtracting a full ten, only the tens digit decreases — the ones digit stays the same.
- Split the subtraction: reduce the tens digit by the number of tens you are taking away, keep ones unchanged.
- Check by adding the ten back: you should land on the number you started with.
